Connecting Your EVO Device to Wi-Fi

Modified on Fri, 13 Feb at 11:58 AM

Follow these steps to connect your EVO Force‑1 to your home Wi‑Fi so you can complete setup and start watching TV. You’ll use the EVO remote to navigate on‑screen prompts.

TABLE OF CONTENTS

Before You Start

Have your Wi‑Fi details ready

  • Locate your Wi‑Fi network name (SSID) as it appears on phones or laptops connected at home. If you have both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, the 5 GHz network typically performs better for streaming at close range.
  • Have your Wi‑Fi password available. Remember that passwords are case‑sensitive and may include symbols.

Connecting to Wi‑Fi

Select your Wi‑Fi network from the list

  • When prompted during setup, choose “Skip” on “Set up with Android phone” unless you specifically want to copy settings from an Android device.
  • On the Wi‑Fi screen, use the D‑pad on the EVO remote to highlight your home network SSID and press OK. If you don’t see it, scroll to the bottom for “See all networks.”

Use the on‑screen keyboard with the remote

  • After selecting your SSID, an on‑screen keyboard appears. Use the D‑pad to move between characters; press OK to enter each character.
  • Move to the Show/Hide icon if you need to verify characters as you type, then return to finish your entry.

Enter your Wi‑Fi password

  • Carefully enter the password with exact capitalization and symbols. Double‑check common pitfalls (O vs 0, l vs I).
  • Highlight “Connect” or “Done” and press OK. The device will attempt to join your network.

Confirm successful connection

  • You’ll see a confirmation screen that the device is connected to the Internet. The box may download updates and briefly reboot; this is normal. Allow a few minutes if updates occur.

Connection Confirmation

“Successfully connected to Internet” message

  • After a successful join, you’ll be advanced to the next setup steps (Google Account sign‑in, services, device naming). If you see the home or welcome screen next, your network connection is active.

If the connection fails

  • You’ll be returned to the Wi‑Fi screen or see a “Couldn’t connect” message. Choose “Try again,” re‑enter the password carefully, or pick another network if applicable. If problems persist, see Troubleshooting below.

Wi‑Fi Troubleshooting

Network not appearing in list

  • Ensure your router is powered on and broadcasting; wait 30–60 seconds and select “Refresh” or reenter the Wi‑Fi screen to rescan. Move the EVO box closer to the router if possible.
  • If your SSID is hidden, choose “Add network,” enter the exact SSID and password, and select the correct security type (typically WPA2/WPA3).

Incorrect password errors

  • Re‑enter the password carefully with the on‑screen keyboard; verify capitalization, numbers, and special characters. Consider revealing characters temporarily to check entries.

  • Confirm the current password on a phone already connected to the same SSID, or check your router admin page if available.

Weak signal issues

  • If the signal icon shows low strength or connections drop, move the EVO device or router to reduce obstructions and interference (avoid inside cabinets, behind TVs, or near microwaves).

  • If you have dual‑band Wi‑Fi, try the 5 GHz SSID for faster speeds when nearby, or 2.4 GHz for better range through walls. Consider relocating the router or adding a Wi‑Fi extender/mesh node if coverage is limited.

Next steps

Once connected, proceed through the remaining setup:

  • Sign in to a Google Account or choose Skip (recommended to sign in so you can install apps later).
  • Review and accept terms, adjust Google services, name your device, and complete TV/receiver pairing prompts.
